Sexual Health and Birth Control
The Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Center continues to promote Sexual Health and we encourage all sexually active folks to continue with regular checkups; Sexual Health checkups should be done every six months, if a person has a new sex partner or is symptomatic of an STI (Sexually transmitted infection). If people are requiring STI testing an in-hospital appointment would be necessary- results take about 1 week, however, if a person is symptomatic for, or named as a contact to a person with an STI we can treat in-hospital (clinic) right away.
Appointments for Emergency Contraception (Plan B) are available at any time. Hormonal Birth Control for new and returning clients continue to be supported by Northern Health; if you need to make an appointment please don’t hesitate. Clients wanting condoms and lubricant can be arranged through the clinic reception; we can deliver packages of supplies to people in the hospital parking lot for your convenience.
