Property Taxes

Property taxes are billed annually and are a combination of the tax rate and the assessed value of the property.

The 2022 Budget Process is currently underway. View the  2022 Financial Plan public meeting for a recording of the meeting. 

2022 Property Tax notices will be mailed in mid-late May. 

Unpaid Property Taxes

  • A 5% late penalty is applied to unpaid current year taxes after July 4th 2022.
  • A 2nd 5% late penalty is applied to unpaid current year taxes after August 31st.
  • An unclaimed home owner grant is considered outstanding taxes and the above penalties apply.

  • In early 2022, Council went through a water billing review and updated rates, categories and water frontage taxes. These changes will be apparent on quarterly utility notices starting in April 2022.
  • Utilities are billed quarterly in January, April, July & October.
  • Payments are due March 15th, June 15th, September 15th and December 15th.
  • Penalties are applied as a 3% lump sum to late or outstanding utility payments and will appear on your next bill.
  • 2022 utility balances must be paid by December 31, 2022 or the balance will transfer to your property tax account in January 2023, and accrue daily interest.

Paperless Billing Options

Unfortunately the paperless billing option ended at the end of 2021. If you signed up for paperless billing, you do not need to make any changes, you will receive a paper bill for quarterly utilities in January 2022 as normal. After December 31st 2021, access to your online account was deactivated.



Payment Options

There are multiple ways you can pay a property tax or utility bill:

Online/telephone banking

Use the Pay Bill feature in your Northern Savings Credit Union or Scotiabank account.

Credit card payment

Online, via phone, or in person. Processing fees are charged to the customer.

Mail a cheque to Municipal Hall, 903A Oceanview Drive, Queen Charlotte, BC, V0T1S0

Early enough to be received before the deadline (postdated cheques dated for the due date are acceptable). A postmarked date is not accepted as the date of payment, the payment date is the date that the cheque arrives at our office.

Cheque, money order or cash in an envelope. The drobox is checked multiple times during business hours.

In person

(M-F, 8:30am – 4:30pm except holidays)

Credit card, cheque, money order or cash. Debit cards not accepted in person.
